News this week of a reserve match...
MK DONS RESERVES
This week MK Dons reserves travelled to Coventry City's Ryton training ground for a match against their reserve side. By all accounts it was an entertaining match that finished as a 4-4 draw. This was a decent result for the Dons when considering the quality that Coventry put out. Controversially, Coventry included former Watford striker Marlon King who is on trial at the Midlands side having recently finished a prison sentence for a sexual assault. King scored one of the home side's goals during the match.
OTHER SPORTS AT STADIUM MK
Following the announcement that Stadium MK had been named by Northampton Rugby Football Club as one of their venues for the new season, Dons chairman Pete Winkelman has moved quickly to distance himself from any permanent move to the new city. In an interview with Three Counties Radio, he said that the stadium had been built for football and it was too early to consider any other possibilities, however he did say that he wanted the people of Milton Keynes to enjoy a variety of sporting events at the venue.
Meanwhile the on-going saga over the use of the Arena by the MK Lions basketball side continues. Several deadlines for completion of the arena have come and gone with the latest being September 2010, and this has led to the basketball side considering a move away from Milton Keynes. They have, however, been offered two temporary homes in Milton Keynes, one of which is the site of the former Sainsbury store in Central MK.
JPT 2ND ROUND MATCH ON SKY
The second round draw of the Johnstone Paint Trophy on Soccer AM produced a home match for the Dons against fellow league one side Charlton Athletic. The match will be played at Stadium MK on Tuesday October 5th at 7.45pm. This match has also been chosen for live coverage by Sky Sports for the second time in a month and will bring more revenue to the Dons.
CAPTAIN MISSES BRIGHTON
Following Dean Lewington's sending off in the league encounter against Hartlepool United last weekend, he has been given a one match ban by the FA which will be served during the match against Brighton at the Withdean Stadium on Saturday. Adam Chicksen would appear favourite to fill the role. Meanwhile, the Dons have continued an amazing turn around in their discipline from last season, when they were shown more yellow cards than any other club in league history. This season they have conceeded just one yellow card so far, making the Dons the cleanest side in the Football League.
FORMER DONS IN THE NEWS
Darren Morgan has started the season well with his new club Chesterfield, scoring a goal in their shock 2-1 defeat of Walsall. Meanwhile, Clive Platt has played his first match for Coventry against Millwall. Sadly for Clive he didn't score and Coventry were defeated. Lewis Gobern is another ex-Don settling into a new club, and this week he played his part in another win for Grimsby, this time a 2-0 defeat of Luton Town. Gobern laid on the corner that led to one of the two goals. Finally Sol Davies has taken the ill discipline of last season with him to Kettering, already receiving a suspension following a sending off.
